The Course Introduction
The Coding & Digital Skills for Kids course for Grade 1–3 introduces learners to basic coding, digital literacy, and creative technology skills through fun and interactive activities. Aligned with the Kenyan CBC/CBE curriculum, the program helps learners develop logical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills using beginner-friendly coding platforms such as ScratchJr and block-based programming tools.
Learners explore concepts such as sequencing, algorithms, animations, storytelling, simple game creation, and beginner robotics while gaining confidence in using technology safely and creatively. The course builds a strong foundation for future learning in coding, robotics, and STEM education.
The Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the learners will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic computer and digital device handling skills confidently and safely.
- Identify and use common computer parts such as the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and tablet controls.
- Navigate simple educational software and digital learning platforms independently.
- Understand beginner coding concepts such as sequencing, commands, loops, and events.
- Create simple animations, games, and interactive stories using block-based coding platforms such as ScratchJr and Scratch.
- Apply logical thinking and problem-solving skills to complete coding activities and challenges.
- Follow step-by-step instructions to develop digital projects and simple coding tasks.
- Develop creativity and imagination through storytelling, drawing, animation, and coding projects.
- Practice communication and teamwork during collaborative digital activities and projects.
- Demonstrate responsible and safe use of digital devices and online learning tools.

Course Audience for Coding & Digital Skills for Kids (Grade 1–3)
This course is designed for:
- Learners in Grade 1 to Grade 3 following the Kenyan Competency-Based Education (CBE/CBC) curriculum.
- Children aged approximately 6–9 years.
- Beginners with little or no prior experience in coding or digital technology.
